A quarter of the 2024-2025 NHL season has come and gone and there are a lot of surprising teams and outcomes. One of the team's that isn't surprising to start the year are the reigning Western Conference Champion Edmonton Oilers. If you remember watching the Edmonton Oilers around this time last Year, then you realize that they're starting the year the same way they did last year. Starting the year off terrible and then finally finding their game mid November just after the Heritage Classic against the Calgary Flames.
Can the Oilers do it again?
At the time of writing this, the Oilers are coming off of a HUGE win against last year's President Trophy winner, The New York Rangers and have the rest of the week off before ending it in Utah against The Utah HC. But going back to the Rangers game, the Oilers finally looked like the Western Conference Champions for the first time this season, kicking the Rangers up and down the ice and securing the big W. Evan Bouchard redeemed himself from the game before with a 2 point performance and an absolutely dominant presence on the blue line. Now I know that a lot of people are down on Bouchard right now based on his performance to begin the season, but you have to remember that Bouchard was kind of slow to begin last season also. Sure he had a much better start last year then this year but he's still adjusting to the absence of Vincent Desharnais and the other moves the Oilers made during the off season, including the Hiring of controversial general manager Stan Bowman. I know what Stan Bowman did was bad, but at the end of the day Bowman is a businessman and is absolutely capable of getting the Oilers back to the Stanley Cup Final and I believe that he will. End Of Story!
