Trades, trades and even more trades!

It's been a crazy couple of months in the hockey world with trades galore..... From Rangers captain Jacob Trouba going to the Ducks to Timothy Liljegren going to the the Sharks, we'll cover it all today here on PuckStruck!

Chaos to end a weird 2024

This NHL season has been nothing short of chaotic and we're not even halfway through it yet. Dating back to October 30th, we've had 11 trades. Not to mention all of the madness that we've had on the waiver wire! There's been quite a few crazy trades in the last 2 months, but none as crazy to me as these two. The first one was at the end of October with the Trade of Maple Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren to the San Jose Sharks for fellow defenseman Matt Benning going to Toronto. Now the Liljegren trade (at least to me) was very shocking given that he was a big part of helping the Leafs break their playoff curse 2 years ago. I guess it was time to change things up on the blue line, but trading for Matt Benning was not the right move for the Leafs, especially if they're trying to make it better. Now, that's not to say the former Oilers defenseman hasn't made a good career on being the only option for a defenseman, I just just don't think that he's the solution to the Leafs blue line issues. But again that's just my opinion. Now, the second trade that was relatively surprising was Jacob Trouba of the New York Rangers getting traded to the Anaheim Ducks for prospect Urho Vaakanainen. Honestly, I don't know what the Rangers were thinking here..... Trading away their captain for basically nothing! Now, that's not meant to bash the player that the Rangers got in said trade, because I'm he's a good player..... But, Trading him for Trouba will have to be weighing on his confidence, especially when he has little to no NHL experience and Trouba has multiple years of experience with him being the Rangers captain at the time of the Trade. Remember, these are just my opinions and what I think of these things. And with this NHL season being as crazy as it is, maybe we need crazy opinions. Now, that's all I got for you today nerds, and I'll be back tomorrow!
